Michigan Asparagus Season begins!

Friday, May 13th, 2011

We are currently now selling our homegrown Michigan asparagus! With the onset of the warm (hot) weather, it has really pushed the asparagus into production! We are selling our 1lb. bundles for $2/lb. We do offer quantity discounts for 10 or more lbs! Come on out and start enjoying Michigan’s first fresh vegetable of the season. Asparagus is great so many different ways whether you like to grill, steam, or roast it and the best part is that it is SO good for you! Call with any questions at (269)684-5865 or send us an e-mail!

The warm weather has also really made our homegrown Michigan strawberries grow like crazy! We are beginning to see a few varieties start to bloom which means we should have strawberries within a couple of weeks.  A favorite season of so many, we are anxious for another great strawberry season!

I for one, am glad to see the winter of 2010/2011  in the past!  I’m sure you will all agree that with record breaking snowfalls, it was a very long winter. We were sure glad to turn the calendar to April and welcome the warmer temps., greener grass, and lovely spring flowers!

We are anxiously awaiting the start of our homegrown asparagus season.  We know many of you, too, are craving the first fresh vegetable of the year after such a long winter! Looks as though things will be a little later this year as opposed to last year.  We need warmer weather to warm the ground allowing the asparagus to grow and become productive.  We will let you know as soon as we pick our first batch and will have it available at our fruit stand.

We have stayed very busy this spring getting everything trimmed and ready for a new year. Temperatures have

remained relatively cool preventing an early budbreak like last year.  We are hoping and praying that we get a gradual warm up and avoid a spring freeze. We have a lot of exciting things going on at our farm this year including plans for a new strawberry field.  We look forward to seeing you all again and are excited and so thankful to begin another year.
